Dusk II
This piece is part of Ting Yuen's Artist Diary series.
The First Nations create totem poles to honor their ancestors. The teachings of the ancestors are carried through to today’s world and are widely practiced among people of all creed. They believe that everyday should be greeted with sacred honor songs and prayers because life is a fleeting phenomena.
In this painting, the girl is sitting on the totem pole to address the end of the day with prayers of gratitude and respect. Her joy for life is reflected by the greeting of the hummingbird which represents peace.
