It is with deepest sorrow, my mom, Mei Ying Wong passed away on Nov 27th, 2020 at 6 a.m. Pacific time, in her care home. Victoria Chinatown Care Centre in Victoria, B.C.
My mom, Mei Ying Wong was an extraordinary woman and I am not just saying that because she was my mom. I know, if you would have ever met Mei, you would agree wholeheartedly with me.
To describe Mei’s life is an impossible task. Her life was rich, adventurous, and fascinating. Mei was a complex and incredible woman.
My mom was a songstress, She relished the chance to sing a song, and that was when her showmanship shone. She had the most beautiful voice. It was powerful, clear, and melodic. When Mei sang, the world listened in awe. One of her contributions to the Victoria Chinatown Care Centre, where she resided was to bring joy and entertainment value to her fellow residents with her singing ability.
Mei was also a devotional and intelligent woman. My mom was fearless, being the eldest of 11 siblings, and coming from hardship, she started working at a very young age, helping her mom and dad with their small businesses, and learned about commerce and entrepreneurship. She remained a loyal and supportive daughter until their passing. And in the eyes of her siblings, Mei was a natural born leader that led with her heart and brain.
Throughout my mom’s creative life, she had a few careers. She was a school teacher, a successful businesswoman and a savvy investor. Mei, the feminist, had a go-getter tenacity, and she was courageous and adventurous, she also loved animals and nature.
Above all, My mom was a dedicated mother that wanted her girls to have the brightest future possible. She wanted us to forge a life of independence and the knowledge that there was nothing we couldn't do. Mei was an admirable mother who loved unconditionally.
If you were to describe my mom, you would have a hard time finding one word that pinpoints her personality. She was truly unique. Her magnetic charisma and beautiful presence attracted so much attention. One could not walk by my mom without doing a double take, Mei was the honey, and we were all her bees.
My mom is in heaven as we speak, singing her lungs out in the meadow of flowers, surrounded by an audience of angels and loved ones. Mei will be greatly missed and loved by all that knew her.
Today, is the Celebration of Life for Mei Ying Wong. Due to Covid Rule, I am not allowed to attend. I will celebrate her life with Paul, my husband and we will be with her in spirit.
With great sadness,
